These wasps are not at all harmful, even though they resemble yellowjacket wasps. If you are a parent who is worried about them in playgrounds watch the following to reduce your fears:
These wasps actuall reduce the number of pests and biting flies in parks since they feed on them. Therefore closing parks because of their presences is equivalent to closing parks if there were large numbers of dragonflies flying around.
