Goggles are more than a fashion accessory at Foam Day in Lehi, Utah. Now in its fourth year, the event is part of Pioneer Day celebrations and is held annually on the Saturday preceding July 24. For kids, I’m sure there is no better way to commemorate the 1847 arrival of Mormons in the Salt Lake Valley. If you want to get in a lather and make some foam angels, this is the place to be.

The two hour foam extravaganza, led by the town’s fire department, winds down with a free watermelon snack for all foamers. Participation has increased from 1,000 people in its inaugural edition to 5,000 this year.
A couple of hundred gallons of foam concentrate and an unlimited supply of water make for bubbly escapades. This video from Urban Media tells the story with panache. Lila-Jeanne, who will be three-years-old in a few months, and I watched it time after time getting into the groove of the visuals and the airy beat of Let’s go surfing by the Drums.
